Scan the stage, don’t type it.
Updating the production board by hand is the easiest job to forget. The barcode removes it: the technician scans when picking up the job and the stage advances automatically. The board stays close to reality, and when a clinic asks about status, your answer is right.
The problem on the floor
Why doesn’t updating a board by hand stick?
In most labs that set up a digital board, everything goes fine for the first two weeks. Then a busy day comes, stages are left un-updated and the board falls behind reality. Once it is behind, nobody trusts it; everyone goes back to walking round the benches.
The reason is not a lack of discipline but extra load on the workflow. If the technician has to finish the job, wash their hands, go to the computer and move the order to the next stage, that step is the first to drop on a busy day. If the record is created after the work rather than alongside it, it will slip sooner or later.
The barcode removes that load. The record is created at the moment and at the place the work is done. The technician scans the barcode of the box already in their hands; the stage advances by itself. The board’s accuracy no longer depends on anyone’s memory.

Do I need a special barcode scanner?
A standard barcode scanner is enough. Mobile devices that can scan QR codes can also be used.
What if the barcode isn’t scanned?
You can also move the stage by hand on the board. The barcode is not a requirement but a tool for speed and accuracy.
Can I see which technician moved it?
Yes. The technician who scanned and the time are recorded; the earnings calculation is also based on this production record.
Can a job moved to the wrong stage be corrected?
The order can be moved to the right stage from the board.
